Closing Chapter

After 18 years, it is time to say goodbye to the Bhavana Project as an active project.  It has been a rich and fulfilling experience.  I appreciated the process while meeting new friends, and finding joy in each heart felt contribution. It inspired numerous related prayer flag events and projects over the years.  Though I feel sadness at letting go, I am also looking forward to what new experiences life will offer.

Enjoy exploring the journey of the flags on this site.

Deep gratitude to all who have participated since 2005!

Be well,
Linda

You stand on the shore of new invitation
To open your life to what is left undone;
Let your heart enjoy a different rhythm
When drawn to the wonder of other horizons.

4th Flag Set Completed!

Yay!  The current set of Bhavana Project flags, that began in 2015, is complete with 12 flags.  It is always  a joy to see what arises.  I was motivated to finish this set.  The inspiration came after recently hearing W.H. Murray's quote: "Find beauty. Be still.".  Enjoy!

I may be changing the process how future sets are created, so stay tuned.   Please get in touch if you would like to join us.

Compassion

The flags have returned.  Margot Ettl created a wonderful addition to the set by designing flags that spell out "Compassion."  Flags within flags are delightful!

In Memoriam

Sadly I have learned of the death of  Linda Friedman.  She had a big heart and a warrior spirit.  She will be missed.

Please enjoy Linda's flag contribution from 2013.  She wrote:  "Soar to the stars.  Peace is within."

We Belong...

After a long period without much activity, I am happy to share a new addition to the current set of flags.  Candace Peterson-Kahn from Redondo Beach has created a lovely heartfelt image for her flag.  Enjoy!

Peace to All...

Bhavana Project prayer flags

For this peace themed prayer flag, we revisit Judy Warner's beautiful contribution to the 3rd Bhavana Project set in May 2012.   Her words read "Peace to all who enter here" embellished by the Celtic knot work design.

Peace From Maui

Sharing peace with Lahar Goldberg's flag from May 2009.  Lahar: "sometimes we come from another direction than someone else, but we discover that we have a common purpose so we can mingle peacefully and support a common vision, even if we come from a different point of view. Thanks so much for awakening the creative process in me with cloth, thread and color."

Peace Simply Stated

Bhavana Project prayer flags

I would like to share some peace... with that in mind we will revisit various flags from the Bhavana Project.  We begin with Debby Everett's flag from December 2006.  Taking the flags along on her travels, Debby photographed the flags displayed in numerous locations in Thailand, including "spirit houses".

Integration

Zabriskie Point, CA 2006
We are revisiting the first set of flags.  Here we come to the last addition to the group, with the piece by Sharon Kagan and Karen Michaels from November 2006.  As you may remember, the idea for this project grew out of a creativity workshop with Sharon.  Among inked lines of knitting are these words of inspiration: Yes, integration, peace, sanctuary, vitality, quiet, faith, death, rebirth, glow, and more.

Sharon said, "The journey with the flags was incredible..I chose to use my “knitting” motif as a symbol of the unity of all things.  The writing began with the word “YES”.  And then we wrote all the things we were saying yes to.  It became a conversation with the flags…"

Familiarity

bhavana project prayer flags

We are revisiting the first set of flags.  Here is artist Mary Cochran's beautifully appliqued addition from May 2006.  The quote from E. Dendel on the back side reads:  "Familiarity often blinds us to the marvels of the commonplace."

Mary said, "Looking back I am in awe of the things it has triggered and brought to my attention. I am still almost daily being shown how deeply rooted a very important influence in my life has been."
